REC hosts and presents at several events each year for students, administrators, faculty, trustees and alumni. We also frequently speak across the country on campuses and at conferences: please contact us to have REC come to you.



REC's Summer Organizing Institute 2010

Join other student activists from around the country for 5 days in New York City developing their knowledge about responsible investment and sharing strategies from across the movement! Perfect for someone new to the endowment ethics movement or for someone looking to develop a strong campaign plan for next year. We are also committed to providing travel scholarships.

We will be discussing a number of subjects relevant to today's student leaders, including:

  • Confronting corporate power: understanding corporations and universities
  • How to understand and research your endowment
  • Moving beyond shareholder advocacy: community investment strategies
  • An introduction to the solidarity economy
  • The inner workings of a responsible investment committee
  • Recruiting, engaging, and organizing your campus
  • Knowing your audience: engaging with students, trustees, and the media
  • Tactics and case studies: lessons from victories and defeats at other schools

Cost: Free to attend, with housing provided. Travel funding is available.
Where: New York City, NY
When: Monday, August 2 - Friday, August 6 (fly in Sunday night, leave Saturday morning)

Accepted applicants to our student organizer program are required to attend the Summer Organizing Institute as part of their training. However, you are welcome to attend this training without applying to be a student organizer.
