POSITION

Position: 6 Part-time Student Organizers
Start Date: Training July-August 2008, position runs academic year
Location: 6 regions: West Coast, North East, South East, Mid-west, South West, Mid-Atlantic
Salary: $4,000 per academic year ($2,000 per semester), travel and materials covered, and additional $500 and housing and travel for 2 1/2 week training

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Responsible Endowments Coalition seeks dynamic part-time student organizers to support responsible investment advocacy by student activists throughout the U.S. If you don't know much about investment that's OK--as long as you have a love of social justice, organizing experience, and strong leadership skills.

Our approach is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to address responsible investment however is most important to them. We embrace all social justice issues using responsible investment as a tactic. Our ideal student organizers are interested in a wide range of social and environmental justice projects and work well independently. REC employees are based around the country and do not operate from a central office, thus self-motivation and strong-time management skills are essential. Experience with Microsoft Office is a must and knowledge of Internet research and social networking sites is a plus. Access to a car, or reliable public transportation, is essential.

Responsibilities include:

  • Attending a 2 1/2 week paid training in NYC at the end of summer
  • Organizing at least 3 presentations on responsible investment on area campuses: This includes outreach to student groups/faculty/staff (email, phone), visiting campus and presenting a workshop, and following up after the talk
  • Entering new contacts into our active database and onto the list serv
  • Serving as liaison between new contacts and full-time staff
  • Participating in monthly conference calls with REC board and staff, helping to shape overall organizational policy
  • Providing weekly progress reports and time sheets to supervisor

Additional Qualifications:
In addition to campus or community organizing experience, candidates should be strong public speakers comfortable working with diverse audience. Ideal candidates are current students excited to work on social justice, well-organized, and eager to help build a stronger responsible investment campus movement!
